Telekom Hopes For RM15mil Revenue
From New Application
TELEKOM
Malaysia Bhd expects to rake in RM15mil in revenue from its latest
Netmyne application.
The
application, known as Netmyne Exchange 2000 (Netmyne E2K), is
the result of a strategic alliance between Telekom Malaysia and
two global IT players--Microsoft and Hewlett-Packard.
Netmyne,
launched in November 1999, is the telco's web hosting service
operated by its subsidiary Telekom Multimedia Sdn Bhd, which is
currently serving 3,000 customers.
Telekom
Malaysia chief executive Datuk Dr Mohd Khir Abdul Rahman said
that Netmyne E2K helped the group move into another phase of its
offering as a Web Application Services Provider (WASP).
Khir said the initial version of Netmyne, which was just simple
and basic web hosting, had received overwhelming response and
generated an annual revenue
of RM3mil.
"Looking
at the promotional charges that we imposed on the first subscribers
of Netmyne, we managed to get around RM3mil in revenue,'' Khir
said.
"With
this new product which is really a product for the business community,
we feel that it is going to go close to RM15mil.
Khir
told reporters this after the launching of Netmyne E2K in Kuala
Lumpur yesterday.
Based
on the figures quoted by Khir, Netmyne subscriber base would have
to expand to 50,000 customers in order to generate that much revenue.
Netmyne
currently operates four data centres with a total space of 11,000
sq ft
of web hosting facilities, catering to 300 servers at any one
time.
It
offers a range of basic and advanced web hosting which includes
domain names, server storage, post office protocol (POP) mail,
auto responder mail, file transfer protocol (FTP) accounts, hit
counter, form submission, web statistics reports, server hosting,
commerce hosting, domain parking as well as media hosting. --
